Abstract
Basidiospores germinate in 48 hrs. at 40[degree]C and produce white haploid mycelia. When paired, haploid mycelia fall into 4 mating-type groups with uneven distr. of mycelia in the groups. Diploid mycelia were induced to fruit only by covering agar-slant cultures with an inch of sterile soil. Although different strains of diploid mycelia were fruited, little variation in the form of the fruit bodies was observed. Attention is drawn to the presence of a prominent basal mass of hyphae similar to the emplacements found in other spp. of Cyathus. The epiphragm of C. vernicosus ruptures in a circumscissile manner. In other common spp. of Cyathus the epiphragm tears irregularly across the diameter.
