Ferrite Film Circulator

Abstract
A ferrite film circulator is demonstrated for use in microwave integrated circuits. An analysis describes the performance of the circulator as a function of the film thickness. Specifically, it is found that the maximum possible bandwidth is proportional to the ratio of film thickness to overall thickness. Thus, a minimum film thickness is required to provide the bandwidth necessary for the device to be useful. Practical limits on impedances realizable with microstrip put another lower limit on thickness.
