Abstract
The energy bands and the nature of the conduction electrons have been studied for three intermetallic compounds of dysprosium, e.g., DyZn, DyCu and DyRh, following the augmented plane wave method. Density of states results are given and have implications for the stability of the structure. The charge densities and the number of conduction electrons inside and outside the APW spheres are calculated; it is shown that the character of conduction electrons within the Dy APW sphere is principally of d type for all the compounds. The consequence of the predominance of d electron in the conduction bands on the various physical parameters is discussed. Keywords
