The formulation and testing of a process model for community development organizations

Abstract
In a study of the development of 54 communities in Appalachian Kentucky, a model of growth of community development organizations was developed and tested using Guttman scaling analysis. By applying aspects of the organismic and organizational development models, this paper provides a construct of a development model as well as a demonstration of it. It is concluded that community development organizations do, in fact, pass through a process of development that is directional in nature and possesses identifiable stages that start with expressive activities and progress through instrumental functions.
