Spectral Hole Burning and Holography: Multiple Storage of Holograms

Abstract
Spectral hole burning allows the storage of a large number of holograms within the inhomogeneously broadened absorption band of a dye in a polymer film. The storage of 25 holograms within a spectral range of 1 cm-1 has been achieved. Here it is shown how the relative phase between the holograms can be controlled and used to improve the storage density. An electric field was employed as an additional dimension to address the images.
