Abstract
In a job market that is increasingly competitive in selecting and retaining the right employees, career assessments are a time- and cost-efficient method of garnering important information for students, counselors, employees, and employers. Once used primarily for matching and evaluative purposes, assessments are now being recognized as important tools for learning and development. Career assessments can be used to identify problems, suggest alternatives, and stimulate action. Using career assessments for evaluation purposes only tends to make employees defensive. However, if implemented well, career assessments, particularly 360-degree evaluations provide both employee and employer with tools to promote learning as well as to track an employee's progress. Keywords
