Abstract
Clinical and histological features, treatment and course of an ‘oral florid papillomatosis’ (OFP) observed in a 72-year-old woman are described. The discussion of all details published on OFP so far yields the following results: (1) men and middle-aged people as well as older persons are more highly to be affected by OFP; (2) even extremely large lesions still show criterias of the benign nature of OFP; (3) there is a strong tendency of recurrence; (4) methotrexate seems to give the best results in treating OFP; (5) development into malignant growth is possible, and (6) instead of the English name of ‘oral florid papillomatosis’, the name of ‘papillomatosis mucosae oris carcinoides’ is suggested. Keywords
