Pressure Development in the Hyperthrophied Heart.

Abstract
Cardiac hypertrophy was induced in rats by exposure to either exercise or hypoxia. Isovolumetric pressure (aorta clamped) was measured in the left ventricle by a strain gauge connected to a needle introduced into the heart chamber. Pressures in the hypertrophied hearts (either method) were not significantly greater than those in control hearts. On a per g of heart muscle basis, the hypertrophied left ventricle is able to produce less tension than the normal one.
