Abstract
PHOSPHOLIPIDS, which are important in the structure and function of biologic membranes, have been the subject of evolving information correlating their physical and chemical properties with their physiologic role. An earlier held concept of phospholipids as static structural components of membranes has been dispelled. Phospholipids are in a dynamic state within the membrane, and they may undergo physico-chemical changes. A major aim of this review is to relate this pleomorphism of phospholipids to the biologic properties of membrane and plasma lipoproteins.
