X-ray Inactivation of Lambda Phage

Abstract
Studies on the reactivation processes affecting x-ray survival of lambda phage reveal that the x-ray lesions are not the subject of an enzymatic repair and differ in this respect from u.v. lesions. Specifically no host-cell reactivation or photoreactivation was detected. Multiplicity reactivation, the other repair phenomenon depending on genetic recombination, was not observed with x-irradiated lambda phage either. Marker rescue was the only significant phenomenon observed with x-ray-inactivated lambda phage. Undamaged parts of the irradiated genome are to a measurable extent incorporated simultaneously with the infecting, non-irradiated phage.
