Abstract
Using a 40 cm curved-crystal spectrograph of the transmission type the L emission spectra of some rare earths have been investigated. The high-frequency satellite L gamma 1' in the spectra of 69Tm, 68Er, 67Ho, 66Dy, 65Tb and 64Gd has been reported for the first time at wavelengths of 1303.5, 1353.0, 1406.5, 1458.6, 1516.4 and 1577.7 X.U. respectively. The origin of L gamma 1' has been ascribed to the transition LIIMIII to MIIINIV on the basis of the multiple ionization theory. The measured values of the wavelength of L gamma 1, have been found to be in good agreement with those calculated on the aforesaid transition. Keywords
