Structural Properties of Cotton Fibers

Abstract
A brief résumé of the literature on bundle strength in relation to orientation has been presented. With this as a background, the behavior according to species of 67 cottons of Indian and foreign origm is analyzed with respect to the convolution angle-strength relationship. The highest correlation coefficient between the two entities was observed for G. arboreum bengalense (-0.97) and Egyptian G. barbadeuse (-0.93) cottons; no correlation was observed for G. herbaceum and Indian G. hirsutum cottons. The over alt correlation coefficient was highly significant at -0.73, and a common regression line could be fitted to the entire data irrespective of the species to which the cottons belonged. hterspecies differences in fibrillar orientation vs strength have been high lighted particularly for G. herbaccum and Indian G. hirsutum cottons, where factors influeneing strength have not yet been clearly established.
