Abstract
(Second of Three Parts)Colon, Rectum and AnusPolypoid DiseaseWatne et al. studied 126 patients with Gardner's syndrome. Sixty per cent of the patients had soft-tissue tumors, 32 per cent osteomas, 67 per cent polyposis, and 20 per cent the entire syndrome. Colonic cancer was found in 32 per cent of the patients. Increased amounts of fecal cholesterol and primary bile acids were found in these patients as compared with controls. The recommended treatment was ileostomy and ileorectal anastomosis at a 12-cm level; regression of rectal polyps was seen in 15 of 17 patients so treated.
