Abstract
It is shown that the mode coupling of drift-wave-type fluctuations via thermal ions in a magnetized plasma can cause a negative diffusion of the ion perpendicular energy across the magnetic field. The resulting diffusion flux is estimated to be of the neoclassical value in the plateau regime. Keywords
