Abstract
Using a BRAGG—BRENTANO camera followed by a bent quartz monochromator the scattering intensities of amorphous red phosphorous were determined and converted into the atomic distribution curve. Radiation of various wavelengths (CuKa, MοKa, AgKa) were used. Each phosphorous atom is surrounded by three nearest neighbours at a distance of 2.24 Å and six others at a distance of 3.48 A. At a distance of 3.48 Å one also finds on the average almost two more atoms with the VAN DER WAALS distance. The bond angle is about 102°. The close range order must be related to that in the lattices of the polyphosphid MePbP14. An improved procedure for normalization and for the elimination of the COMPTON scattering is given and discussed. Keywords
