Technical Assistance in Community Mental Health: A Model for Social Work Consultants

Abstract
This article describes a program of technical assistance consultation sponsored jointly by the University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare, and the Kansas State Department of Mental Health and Retardation. Using the grounded theory method as developed by Glaser and Strauss, the results of 2 years' experience with this project were studied. This retrospective analysis resulted in the development of a heuristic model of consultation that can be employed by social workers in a variety of settings. Seven factors for success were identified.
