Abstract
I would be surprised if you had not observed essential aromatherapy oils and massage oils being sold in the high street. This is a small reflection of the growing interest in and demand for complementary therapies in the UK (1). Articles in the press describe the extension of ‘oil’ use in hospitals by nurses (2). Such an interest confronts nurses with many issues. What should be the scope and standard of practice for nurses using such complementary therapies, and how can such therapy be integrated within existing nursing practice? Keywords
