Time variation of electron density in a pulsed He-Kr+ ion laser

Abstract
The time variation of the electron density has been measured in the early afterglow of microwave-pulse excited He, Kr, and He-Kr gas discharges. It is observed that the decay of the electron density is mainly caused by volume recombination of electrons and ions, and that an ionization by He metastable atoms occurs in the afterglow plasma, and that about 2 μsec after, the decay of electron density decreases.
