Abstract
Simultaneous measurements of transient ground motion and of the resulting structural vibrntiorni in a steel-frame building caused by a large quarry blast are described. Building accelerations computed from the measured ground accelerations are compared directly with measurements made in the building. The satisfactory agreement between the computed and measured building response indicates that the general method of replacing a complex structure by a simplified dynamic model yields results of engineering significance even for complicated transient londings. Keywords
