Abstract
Despite the early introduction of the measurement of the phases of the cardiac cycle, their clinical application received little attention until recent years. In large part, this delay can be attributed to the fact that the physiologic implications of the systolic-time intervals could not be validated until comparisons with direct measures of cardiac function could be made.
