Abstract
Questionnaires designed to sample various aspects of the formal residency selective process were collected from the residency directors of three different types of programs: university based, nonstate institutions, and state hospitals. In general, there were marked similarities across the groups, despite the absence of formally agreed upon guidelines for the selection of residents. The differences which did emerge usually involved a subgroup of the university based programs characterized by larger classes and more applicants per position from which to select. Keywords
