Abstract
Standard tooth surfaces were prepared by buffing with levigated alumina. These surfaces were then etched with .1[image] lactate buffers containing varying quantities of sucrose. All solutions used were adjusted to pH 4.5. The surfaces were then examined by means of an electron microscope. The presence of sucrose retarded the etching properties of the lactate buffers. Equal molar quantities of sodium chloride caused no reduction of activity, while equal molar quantities of glucose had a very slight retarding effect. The mechanism of this action was discussed. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
