Abstract
A technic for the measurement of glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow is described that does not require urine collection. Inulin and p-amino hippuric acid are administered intravenously by a constant delivery pump. After equilibrium is established between the rates of injn., excretion and distr. in body fluids of these compounds, it was assumed that the amt. of compound injected equaled the amt. excreted/unit of time. The clearance of inulin or p-amino hippuric acid can, therefore, be calculated by dividing the amt. of either substance injected/min. by the concn. of the substance in a single plasma sample obtained after equilibrium is established. Excellent agreement between this method of measuring renal functions and the standard technics involving urine collection was obtained in 4 expts. in 3 normal young adult oo .Keywords
