Abstract
A case of congenital absence of the odontoid process with posterior dislocation of the first on the second cervical vertebra is reported in which a boy, eight years old, became quadriparetic while immobilized in a double hip spica. Prolonged hyperextension of the neck while lying prone and watching television appeared to be responsible for the onset of neurological symptoms. Reduction and spine fusion gave a satisfactory result. Keywords
