Abstract
In response to fungal inoculation the leaves of Trifolium arvense accumulate the known isoflavonoid phytoalexins, medicarpin, maackiain, sativan, vestitol, and isovestitol. A previously undescribed isoflavan derivative (arvensan; 7,2′-dimethoxy-4′-hydroxyisoflavan) is also produced by this species. The identification and synthesis of arvensan is described. Keywords
