Abstract
A rich and apparently undisturbed fish community (132 species from 52 families) is found in the Parcel Manuel Luiz Marine State Park, Brazil. Comparisons with data obtained in other sites in Brazil and the Caribbean, using the same visual census technique, demonstrate high variation in community structure. The absence of some species found along the Brazilian coast suggests an ecological barrier between the study area and the remaining coastline. Keywords
