Abstract
Elevated plasma homocysteine is considered to be a graded risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and for this reason there is great interest in high-performance analytical techniques. Methods have evolved from ion-exchange chromatography to embrace high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence or electrochemical detection, immunoassays, gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. Immunoassays and high-performance liquid chromatography methods are currently available in kit form, fluorescence polarization immunoassay showing the best performance. Keywords
