Abstract
The analytic behaviour of the elastic forward-scattering amplitude for electron (positron) scattering from ground-state atoms is studied. The positron-atom and the direct part of the electron-atom amplitude are analytic in the complex energy plane outside the spectrum of H, the Hamiltonian. The exchange part of the electron-atom amplitude has additional singularities covering the real axis to the left of the spectrum of H. The various physical amplitudes are obtained as limits in the mean for the complex energy variable approaching the continuous spectrum of H from above. Keywords
