Abstract
The capacity of whole-body X-irradiated, creatinuric rats to synthesize creatine was determined on the basis of the balance between creatine retained in the body and creatine plus creatinine excreted in the urine. The rate of release of creatine by muscle was assessed by injecting rats with C14-labelled creatine several days prior to exposure. The specific activity of free and muscle creatine was determined before and after X-irradiation by measuring the specific activity of urinary creatine and creatinine. Results indicate that whole-body X-irradiation had no effect on either the rate of creatine synthesis or the rate of creatine release from muscle. Keywords
