Abstract
Toward the end of 3 years of drought a generalized occurrence of this disease was evident from the Oregon border, through the Sacramento Valley to the San Francisco Bay area, with the heaviest incidence centered in the upper delta region. The termination of the general outbreak of mycotic disease among waterfowl, passerines, and poultry coincided with the onset of the winter rains, with one possible holdover among swans, in January. This indicated a direct relation to weather conditions. Aspergillosis was not contagious but infection may have been a corollary of airborne fungus contaminating the atmosphere sufficiently to cause the mortality among diving ducks, free-flying passerine birds, and probably domestic poultry.
