Abstract
Problems of exptl. design in clinical evaluation of diuretic agents were considered. After preliminary tests on animals the standard and unknown agents are administered to each patient and response is measured as wt. loss. The factorial design used provides several inter- action terms any of which might be used to calculate the standard error of the estimated potencies. Finney''s proposal for assays of this type was examined in connection with 2 expts. It was concluded that for comparative clinical assays the precision gained by within-group replication is more than offset by the additional time and subjects, often not available, required to achieve it. The pooled interaction appears to provide an adequate estimate of exptl. error. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
