Abstract
We introduce a new axial-next-nearest-neighbor model that can be solved analytically. The model shows spatially modulated phases in Monte Carlo calculations. As only one critical temperature is found and in agreement with transfer-matrix results the modulated phases are found to be metastable. According to the results of this model we expect nonequilibrium effects in experiments with longer observation times similar to those in spin-glasses.Keywords
