Abstract
Tabanus quinquevittatus Wiedemann was collected canopy traps near Ithaca, New York during 1972 and 1973. 807 flies were trapped, and 699 were dissected to determine parity. Of these, 277 flies were parous; 54.2% of the parous specimens showed sac-like dilations and 45.8% had “yellow bodies.” Due. to the paucity of biparous specimens, the females would seem to be short-lived; nevertheless, results indicated that the number of distinct “yellow bodies” is an unreliable basis for determining the number of gonotrophic cycles. The abundance of nulliparous females with terminal follicles in stage II suggested that the population studied near Ithaca was anautogenous. Keywords
