Abstract
Crystalline rabbit muscle lactate dehydrogenase has been shown to catalyze the oxidation of glyoxylate to oxalate and its reduction to glycollate. Both these reactions have been shown to be catalyzed by all the isoenzymes present. Kinetic constants for both these reactions have been calculated. Oxalate inhibition patterns suggest that glyoxylate may be acting in its hydrated form as a substrate for oxidation and in its non‐hydrated form as a substrate for reduction. Keywords
