Observation of a Peak in the ${\bar{K}}^{0} π^{+} π^{-}$ Effective Mass at 1700 MeV

Abstract

We have investigated the reaction

K^{-} p \to {\bar{K}}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} n

with 6 GeV/c

K^{-}

. We observe a statistically significant (6.6 standard deviations) peak in the

{\bar{K}}^{0} π^{+} π^{-}

effective mass at 1692 ± 6 MeV with a full width

Γ = 26_{- 17}^{+ 24}

MeV.
