Abstract
Equilibrium ultracentrifugations, potentiometric acidity measurements, and Raman spectra of hydrolysed potassium periodate solutions have been interpreted by assuming the species IO4 , H2I2O10 4–, H3IO6 2–, and H2IO6 3–. The least-squares refined formation constants in 0·5M-potassium chloride at 25° are: 2IO4 + 2OH=H2I2O10 4–, log β2,2= 15·05 ± 0·03; IO4 + OH+ H2O = H3IO6 2–, log β1,1= 6·21 ± 0·02; and IO4 + 2OH= H2IO6 3–, log β2,1= 8·67 ± 0·01
