Abstract
Equilibrium ultracentrifugations, potentiometric acidity measurements, and Raman spectra of hydrolysed potassium periodate solutions have been interpreted by assuming the species IO4 –, H2I2O10 4–, H3IO6 2–, and H2IO6 3–. The least-squares refined formation constants in 0·5M-potassium chloride at 25° are: 2IO4 –+ 2OH–=H2I2O10 4–, log β2,2= 15·05 ± 0·03; IO4 –+ OH–+ H2O = H3IO6 2–, log β1,1= 6·21 ± 0·02; and IO4 –+ 2OH–= H2IO6 3–, log β2,1= 8·67 ± 0·01Keywords
