Abstract
Gram-positive catalase-positive cocci may be divided into at least 3 well-defined groups on the basis of cell wall composition, but these do not correspond to the subdivisions suggested in any recent classification of these organisms. It is suggested that cell wall composition may be of value in solving taxonomic problems. Cell wall composition seems to be unaffected by growth conditions, the components may be identified by comparison with known artificial standards, and where differences in pattern of amino acid components occur, the differences are great and clear-cut. The study reported here involved analysis of 24 strains of cocci. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
