Abstract
SUMMARY These experiments indicate that the pituitary gland plays no significant part in the maintenance of the corpus luteum in the hysterectomized guinea-pig. They also indicate that oestrogens, which are shown to be incapable of inducing vaginal opening in these animals or of preventing the onset of the luteal changes evoked by hysterectomy, are not involved in the regulation of luteal activity. The possibility of a direct effect of the uterus on the maintenance and regression of the corpus luteum is suggested.
