Abstract
The crystal structure of synthetic ellisite, Tl3AsS3, has been determined bv means of 3d-counter data. The space group is C 5 3v -R3m with a rho = 5.9967(6) Å, α rho = 105.88(1)°, Z = 1 (a hex = 9.5707(5) Å, c hex = 6.9888(4)Å. The structure was solved by a 3d-Pattersonfunction and a full-matrix least-squares refinement with anisotropic temperature factors and anomalous dispersion to an.R-value of 5.8% for the observed reflections. The Tl atom is surrounded by three S atoms in a trigonal-pyramidal arrangement at distances between 3.048 Å and 3.095 Å (mean: 3.063 Å) and by two additional S atoms at a distance of 3.444Å. The As atom shows the usual trigonal-pyramidal coordination by the S atoms (As –S = 2.227 Å). The structure is built up by the threedimensional network of the Tl-polyhedra together with the As-pyramids.
