Abstract
Quenching reactions of He(2 3S) and He2(2 3Σ) metastables in the presence of N2 and O2 have been studied in the afterglow period of electron beam excited discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressures. For He(2 3S) both bimolecular and termolecular quenching rate coefficients were determined. For He2(2 3Σ) only bimolecular quenching reactions were observed, and rates for this processes are presented for the first time. In the termolecular quenching of He(2 3S) in the presence of N2 and O2 the product states of this reaction were identified as the He2(2 3Σ) molecular metastable. Keywords
