The Breeding Patterns of Seven Species of Singapore Anura

Abstract
Seven species from the 5 families of Singapore anurans were found to breed throughout the year. Fluctuations in the condition of gonads, urino-genital tracts and secondary sex characters were irregular and could not be correlated with changes in the virtually aseasonal climate. Reproductive behavior was observed more frequently in periods of heavier rain, especially in the Microhylidae. Leptobrachium nigrops (Pelobatidae) alone became more reproductively active during drier spells. Absence of any inherent annual reproductive cyclicity is indi-cated by these results.
