Abstract
The results of matings between a bisexual strain of Neurospora crassa and standard mating-type tester strains are presented. Tetrad analysis of these crosses indicated that occasional 3rd-division types of asci occur, showing segregation for the mating-types A/a, A and a in a ratio 1:3:4. In addition, the bisexual strain exhibits somatic segregation in conidia for 4 mating-type reactions: A/a, A, and a and neutral. An extension of the polaron hybrid DNA theory (Whitehouse) was proposed as an explanation of the mechanism underlying somatic recombination in the vegetative part of the fungus. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
