Abstract
ITHE PUBLICATION of ISO's specification for an environmental management standard, ISO 14001, marks the culmination of more than three years of effort by ISO's technical committee, TC207, and the first in a series of international standards aimed at improved environmental management. It also provides an opportunity for reflection on the likely implications of the introduction of the standard in all ISO member countries and elsewhere, and on the factors that may affect the extent to which the standard becomes adopted.
