ISOMERS OF 2,3-BUTANEDIOL IN SILAGE PRESERVED WITH SULFUR DIOXIDE

Abstract

The 2,3-butanediol concentration in silage was decreased from 0.87% of the dry matter in control silage to 0.12% in silage preserved with 0.66 SO₂. The meso isomer comprised from 41 to 64% of the total 2,3-butanediol. Both D and L isomers of the chemical were also present.
