Abstract
Voice screening by means of recordings was conducted on 428 adults going through a series of tests at a multiphasic health-screening unit. Judgments of voice quality made by a trained listener were compared with judgments made by the participant. Laryngeal examinations were obtained on selected cases. Between 5 and 10% had some type of laryngeal or nasopharyngeal pathology that produced a deviant voice quality, indicating that a health-screening program which includes voice screening can identify a significant segment of the affected adult population early enough to prevent the development of more serious laryngeal lesions. Keywords
