ADRENAL CORTICAL RESPONSE TO INSULIN-INDUCED HYPOGLYCAEMIA IN THE RAT.

Abstract
Using plasma corticosterone as an index of adrenal cortical activity, the response to a single subcutaneous injection of Protamine Zinc Insulin was characterized. After twenty-five daily periods of hypoglycaemia induced by this long-acting insulin preparation, hypoglycaemia no longer induced an increase in plasma corticosterone. Further experiments confirmed that this actually represented an adaptation at the adenohypophyseal or higher level to the stimulus of insulin-induced hypoglycaemia.
