Abstract
After an evaluation of the different approaches in cross-cultural research the author reviews strategy, methods and main findings of the Austin-Mexico City project in which an overlapping longitudinal design was employed. In this way a span of 12 years of child development could be covered in only 6 calendar years of repeated testings. Finally, similarities, as well as differences, in the development of American and Mexican cultures are discussed. Keywords
