Abstract
Since bilateral uterine artery embolisation (UAE) for treatment of uterine fibroids was first reported in 1995 [1], the method has gained popularity with patients and clinicians for its non-surgical approach and perceived safety It IS well-established that complications can occur with embolisation procedures and gynaecological complications could be predicted on the basis of the experience of pelvic arterial embolisation performed for other indications As further and larger series of patients undergoing uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE) are reported, complications, such as femoral haematoma, arterial damage, pain, post-embolisation syndrome, ovarian dysfunction and most seriously, sepsis leading to hysterectomy, have been reported A review of the literature pertaining to UFE is presented. Keywords
