Abstract
A study is reported in which an attempt was made to secure maternal reporting of maternal sleep-wake activity, fetal rest and activity and neonatal sleep and wakefulness. The data were collected for the last 2 prenatal weeks and the 1st 2 postnatal weeks for each individual during its terminal fetal condition and during its initial neonatal state. Indications from the study are that a type of rhythm exists which is similar in the mother and fetus, and that this common rhythm is carried over to the early postnatal period. Keywords
