Solvation spectra. Part 13.—Ultra-violet absorption spectra of iodide ions in solutions containing carbon tetrachloride

Abstract
The ultra-violet absorption spectra of various iodides in binary mixed solvents of which one component is carbon tetrachloride are reported. Analysis of these spectra and previously reported details of the spectra of iodide in pure carbon tetrachloride lead to a model in which the low energy absorption spectra are attributed to a charge transfer from iodide to a single carbon tetrachloride molecule. An earlier assignment comprising a transition from iodide to the cation is withdrawn.
